Team (Project) Introduction
The Office of Performance Analysis and Integrity manages and enhances the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) which resides on one Oracle M8 Supercluster database and thirteen application servers.  Our team provides the technical services required to sustain EDW applications to include Project Management, Data Warehouse Management, Advanced Analytics, Tableau Server Administration/Tableau Desktop Administration, Technical Collaboration Support, Lessons Learned, Executive Orders and Special Projects, Architectural Enhancement, and Cloud Migration. We also provide management, enhancement, integration, implementation, maintenance, modernization, and infrastructure support for EDW applications as well as enhancement and maintenance of business intelligence capabilities and predictive analytics. 

9th Way Insignia is looking for a Database Administrator to join this team.  This position aligns with the Level 1 Engineer in the 9th Way Insignia Careers families.

Functional Job (LCAT) Information:
A Database Administrator (DBA) on the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) project plays a crucial role in managing, maintaining, and optimizing the databases that are foundational to the project's success. Given the complexity and critical nature of the EDW.  Here are some key job responsibilities for a DBA on the EDW project:

Responsibilities:
 
  • Design and implement robust database schemas and models that support the efficient storage, retrieval, and analysis of data within the EDW. Ensure that database designs align with the project's data governance and architectural standards.
  • Monitor database performance metrics and conduct regular tuning exercises to optimize database efficiency, query performance, and resource utilization. Identify and rectify performance bottlenecks to ensure high levels of system responsiveness and reliability.
  • Implement and maintain stringent database security measures, including access controls, encryption, and auditing mechanisms, to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with VA and federal data protection standards.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive backup and recovery plans to safeguard data against loss or corruption. Conduct regular disaster recovery drills to validate the effectiveness of backup strategies and ensure rapid data restoration capabilities.
  • Ensure the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of data within the EDW by implementing data validation, cleansing, and deduplication processes. Collaborate with data stewards and project teams to address data quality issues promptly.
  • Apply database software updates and patches in a timely and controlled manner, ensuring compatibility with the EDW environment and minimizing disruptions to project operations.
  • Conduct regular capacity planning exercises to anticipate future data growth and system load. Recommend and implement database scaling strategies to accommodate increasing data volumes and user demands.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for database-related issues, providing expert troubleshooting support to resolve problems efficiently. Collaborate with development teams to address database-related challenges in application design and implementation.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of the database environment, including configuration details, operational procedures, and change management activities. Generate regular reports on database health, performance metrics, and optimization efforts.
  • Work closely with other project team members, including developers, data analysts, and project managers, to ensure that the database services effectively support the EDW project's goals. Communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical Discipline, an additional 8 years of experience considered in lieu of degree
  • 1+ years' experience in Data Warehousing
  • Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the required security clearance.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $75,995 - $89,500
