Team (Project) Introduction 

9th Way Insignia Technology is looking for a Computer Network Architect to join our team to assist in providing Information Technology Program Management and technical support (i.e., development, operations and maintenance) to the Department of Veterans Affairs, Benefits and Memorial Services (BAM) Portfolio.  BAM provides high quality, effective, and efficient Information Technology (IT) services to those responsible for providing care to the Veterans at the point-of-care as well as throughout all points of the Veterans’ health care in an effective, timely and compassionate manner. VA depends on Information Management/Information Technology (IM/IT) systems to meet mission goals, and deliver world-class, innovative systems that ensure reliable, secure, and seamless delivery of benefits and services directly to Veterans and their families. The BAM serves the Veterans Benefits Administration, the Board of Veterans Appeals, and the National Cemetery Administration to develop and manage advanced technology solutions. 

Functional Job (LCAT) Information: 

A Computer Network Architect designs and implements computer and information networks, such as local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), intranets, extranets, and other data communications networks. Perform network modeling, analysis, and planning. May also design network and computer security measures. May research and recommend network and data communications hardware and software. 

 

Professional Level Information: 
A  Computer Network Architect aligns as an Engineer (2) within 9th Way Insignia Technology. An Engineer, 2 understands the software development life cycle and can take on work without much direction. Performs multiple engineering-related tasks in various assignments within the project and firm. An Engineer, 2 has broad knowledge of engineering procedures and assists in the resolution of complex problems.  An Engineer, 2, has strong technical skills and background, a knack for learning new technologies, and a blend of good problem-solving and innovation needed to resolve a wide variety of technical production challenges.   

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Design and architect computer networks, including LANs, WANs, intranets, and data center networks, to meet business requirements, scalability needs, and security standards. 

  • Evaluate existing network infrastructure, identify areas for improvement, and develop upgrade or migration plans to enhance network performance, reliability, and security. 

  • Lead the implementation and deployment of network solutions, including network hardware, software, protocols, and security measures, ensuring adherence to design specifications and industry best practices. 

  • Implement and maintain network security measures, firewalls, intrusion detection systems, VPNs, and access controls to protect against cyber threats and unauthorized access. 

  • Monitor network performance, analyze traffic patterns, and optimize network configurations, bandwidth utilization, and Quality of Service (QoS) parameters to meet performance objectives. 

  • Maintain accurate documentation of network designs, configurations, diagrams, procedures, and compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. 

  • Provide troubleshooting assistance, resolve network issues, and participate in on-call support rotations to ensure network uptime, availability, and reliability. 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including IT, security, operations, and project management to support network-related projects, initiatives, and technology integrations. 

  • Evaluate and select network hardware, software, and service providers, negotiate contracts, manage vendor relationships, and oversee service level agreements (SLAs). 

  • Stay updated with emerging technologies, network trends, and best practices, participate in training programs, and share knowledge with team members to enhance collective expertise. 

 

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, (or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree). 

  • 5-9 years of experience in computer networking, network architecture, and network design, with demonstrated proficiency in designing and implementing complex networks. 

  • Strong knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, BGP, OSPF), network hardware (routers, switches, firewalls), and network security principles. 

  • Experience with network design and modeling tools (e.g., Cisco Packet Tracer, Visio, GNS3) and network monitoring tools (e.g., Wireshark, SolarWinds). 

  • Familiarity with cloud networking, virtualization technologies, SDN (Software-Defined Networking), and network automation concepts is a plus. 

  • Excellent analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail in network design and troubleshooting scenarios. 

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and project management skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

 

Preferred/Desired: 

  • Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent certifications are desirable. 

 

Salary Range: 
The salary range for this position is  $77,096- $116,654

Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
